Because rare diseases affect 1 out of 20 people – that’s 3 million French citizens and 30 million Europeans – the leaders of the Rare Disease Platform joined together at a press conference in Paris, France on Feb. 18th, 2010 to remind decision-makers and the public of the importance of promoting research on rare diseases.
This year the theme of this 3rd Rare Disease Day, which will take place on Feb 28th, is “Bridging Patients and Researchers”. The theme emphasizes the importance of research and the essential role of patient groups in this area. Rare Disease Day should stimulate scientists’ interest in rare diseases, encourage collaboration between patients and researchers, and above all, influence public policy and public research priorities.
