François Houÿez

François Houÿez joined EURORDIS in 2003 as Health Policy Officer.
François heads the Health Policy and Networking team which provides services to patients, advice on European legislation, and actions in the field of public health for rare diseases.
In 1996, François pioneered patient advocacy with the EMA (European Medicines Agency) as part of the first patients’ delegation that engaged dialogue with the Agency. Today he represents EURORDIS at the Patients’ and Consumers’ Working Party at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) where he is topic leader on risk communication and an external expert for the evaluation of marketing authorisation applications.
From 2003 to 2004, François coordinated the “Pan-European Network for Patients Information on Rare Diseases and Orphan Drugs” project (PARD III), a project supported by DG SANCO Community Action for Rare Diseases.
Since then, he has managed the “Policy Action and Information for Rare Diseases in Europe” project (PARACELSUS, 2005), the “Rare Disease Patient Solidarity” project (RAPSODY, 2006-2008)
Currently he is coordinating the Patients’ Consensus on Preferred Policy Scenarii for Rare Diseases (POLKA, 2008-2011).
