The 9th European Conference on Rare Diseases & Orphan Products (ECRD 2018 Vienna)

The 9th edition of the European Conference on Rare Diseases & Orphan Products (ECRD) took place 10 – 12 May in Vienna, Austria.
Organised by EURORDIS and co-organised by Orphanet and the DIA, ECRD 2018 Vienna was the largest multi-stakeholder rare disease gathering in Europe in 2018.
ECRD 2018 Vienna provided a unique opportunity to network with all stakeholders shaping the rare disease environment: patient representatives, policy makers, researchers, industry, regulators, EU Member State representatives, academia, health care professionals and payers.
The overarching theme for the conference was Rare Diseases 360° – collaborative strategies to leave no one behind and sessions focused on topics covered by six themes:
-
Structuring the research & diagnosis landscape
-
Breakthrough medicines on the horizon: regulators, Health Technology Assessment (HTA) experts and patients working together
-
The digital patient
-
Quality of life: making what matters, matter
-
Economical perspectives in rare diseases
-
Global rare equity: Are we there yet?
ECRD 2018 Vienna was an opportunity to discuss and reach solutions on how we can look to the future to improve the lives of the estimated 30 million people living with a rare disease in Europe and 300 million worldwide.
