Raquel Castro

Raquel Castro joined EURORDIS in 2012.

Currently based in Barcelona, Raquel is part of the Operations Team and is responsible for leading the EURORDIS Open Academy programme and EURORDIS' social policy activities.

Raquel coordinates the operations, strategic development and partnerships of the EURORDIS Open Academy and its training programmes.

After 6 years in charge of EURORDIS’ social projects, Raquel continues to disseminate everyday needs of people living with a rare disease and their carers and to share good practices, to support the integration of rare diseases into social services and to advance holistic and integrated care for rare diseases.

Raquel was previously in charge of EURORDIS’ activities within the EU-funded project INNOVCare and was involved in the European Joint Actions for Rare Diseases, supporting the elaboration and the implementation of the “Commission Expert Group on Rare Diseases Recommendations to Support the Incorporation of Rare Diseases into Social Services and Policies”.

Prior to joining EURORDIS, Raquel designed and coordinated the Portuguese Help Line for rare diseases, after having worked with development projects in Europe and in India.

Raquel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication as well as a post graduate degree in Project Management at the Lisbon School of Economics and Management.

A Portuguese national, Raquel is also fluent in English, French and Spanish.
