Raquel Castro joined EURORDIS in 2012 as Social Policy and Specialised Social Services Manager.
Raquel is part of the Operations Unit team, assigned to one of the work packages of the Joint Action on Rare Diseases promoted by the European Union Committee of Experts on Rare Diseases (EUCERD): Provision of Specialised Social Services and Integration of Rare Diseases into Social Policies and Services.
Previously, she worked at the Portuguese National Rare Diseases Association, as Help Line Coordinator, obtaining a broad experience in dealing with rare disease patients’ and families’ needs, as well as in overall project management.
Raquel has extensive experience working in not-for-profit and non-governmental organisations in Europe and in Asia. She volunteered and worked in England, Norway and India, fund raising and performing community development work for the international NGO Humana People to People.
Raquel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Multimedia as well as a post graduate degree in Project Management at the Lisbon School of Economics and Management.
A Portuguese national, Raquel is fluent in Portuguese and English, and also speaks French.
